Richard Pulkrabek has over 30 years design experience – from backyard deck, and play spaces, to large slope and waterfront projects requiring full site development and permit drawings.
Richard is dedicated to the highest standards of landscape design.
“I enjoy working with clients to define their needs and unify ideas with the potential that the site has to offer.”
The outcome is usually a plan or set of plans that can be implemented according to the budget, schedule, and a construction sequence optimal for implementing the project.
Richard can also help with bids and contractor selection, and provide supervision at key points during construction – initial layout, placement of plants, etc., in general insuring conformance to the design plans through periodic site visits and on-going coordination with installers.
Richard became licensed as a landscape architect in Washington and opened his own design practice in Seattle in 1993. Prior to that he worked as a landscape designer and project manager for R. David Adams Associates (Seattle 1985-1992). His first professional experience in the Northwest, after landscape architecture studies at the University of Wisconsin, was with the City of Bellevue Parks Department (1980-1983).
His practice focuses mainly on residential projects throughout Puget Sound. But frequent collaborative work with architects and contractors has taken him beyond the greater Seattle area to the Olympic Peninsula, Eastern Washington and the San Juan Islands, and this experience has expanded his understanding of these unique environments and the plant communities they represent.
“Many of these projects in natural areas involve restoration using native plants, with minimal site disturbance and little or no irrigation. So the process requires a different mind-set, and a different approach from traditional landscaping”.
Please feel free to contact Richard for an initial site consultation to go over your ideas, and discuss what would be required to make them a reality.
If you have never worked with a landscape architect before, this will be a great opportunity to talk about design, discuss the construction process, and see for yourself if working with an experienced design professional would be a fit for your project.
